Robert What is good design?

Good design was to be anchored in the minds of the people. Max Bill (Ulm School of Design) coined the term in 1949 for a traveling exhibition by the Schweizerischer Werkbund. Subjective taste was replaced by strict, supposedly objective criteria.

Search Engine Marketing Guidelines for Web Designers

Mastering search engine marketing can be a long and expensive process of trial and error. As the owner of a search engine marketing company, experimenting with new techniques is a necessity.

However, web design companies neither have the time or obligation to learn such strategies. Keeping this in mind, I am pleased to pass on some basic search engine optimization guidelines that will save you from trials, tribulations and deciphering the good information from the bad.

A website’s content is the most important search engine optimization factor. Each page should have between 200 and 250 words. The key phrases being targeted should be included in the text and page headers (i.e. h1 and h2). Make sure not to overuse keywords because it can be interpreted as spamming. A general rule is to make sure your text flows smoothly and is not over cluttered with keywords.
No two pages should have the same title or description tag. Included in these tags should be the keywords that you are targeting on the page you are writing the title and description for.

Title tags should be no more than 70 characters long (including spaces). Description tags should be no more than 155 characters long (including spaces).

Your webpage’s description should follow grammatical guidelines, where as your title does not need to make any sense.
Here is an example of an effective page title:

Ethical Portland Search Engine Marketing Company | WestHill Media

Notice the use of the “|” character. Search engines recognize this character as a tool for dividing thoughts without wasting characters. Also notice that there is no repetition of keywords.
Using a word more than one or two times can be interpreted as spam.
Here is an example of an effective page description:

WestHill Media is a Portland search engine marketing company offering search marketing and search engine optimization to Oregon businesses.

This sentence possesses proper usage of capital letters and ends with a period. Try not to use a keyword more than two or three times.
These organic search engine optimization tips should provide you with a clear understanding of onsite search engine optimization. Feel free to comment and visit this blog regularly for more search engine marketing tips.
